Wellll about three weeks ago after flushing the toilet I noticed the smallest bead of water at the base of the toilet "well that can't be good"....
After further investigation three things were very clear:
1) the old wood laminate needed to be removed so things can start to dry
2) after doing that we realized this problem has been there for much longer than we had realized
3) the smallest problem can start quite a large project....
after removing 5 layers of flooring around the toiled that was completely covered in black mold we had quite the hole looking straight down into the basement. We're all feeling better with that nasty stuff gone, but let me tell you that is something you never want to find in your house!!
I found the most amazing flooring at Lowe's. I knew that I loved the wood look that complimented our older home so well, but sure wasn't going to put anything other than tile in a bathroom that would be experiencing splashing kids in the tub for many years to come. We found this awesome porcelain tile that looks identical to wood! My awesome handy husband has done everything himself and I am so proud of him (it looks amazing). I guess you could consider this a fortunate accident since we now have an awesome bathroom floor! (not quite done in the picture above as the spacers are still in but you get the idea)
Well only a few more to go.
Sarah
