Taming the slough

Well it's not everyday, ok if ever that an entire blog post is about Aaron but today's his lucky day!

He's been quite the competitor over the summer and has really gotten into outdoor sports. He's joined a outdoor biking club which he really enjoys which has prompted him to do a lot more active fun events!
  • He did run the Bix this year but for some reason I never think to take pictures of that one (it may be partially due to the 18,000+ people that run the Bix. )
  • He completed in a mountain biking competition in Cedar Rapids back in early August and did very well (especially since it was his first) and placed 9th out of 19 which is awesome.
  • He competed in the Taming of the Slough which is pictured below. It's actually a triathlon which included kayaking 3 miles, biking 9 miles and then running 1.75 miles. He did SO awesome, we were so proud of him!
  • the next thing that he did was the QC Marathon which neither him nor I have even gone to see let alone completed in. Little did we know that you can actually sign up to be part of a relay team of 5 people where each team member runs between 3-6 miles. The course is actually pretty neat and covers a lot of cool parts of the QCA including crossing two of the bridges from Iowa to Illinois. He didn't get one of the fun bridge stints but he said it was still a pretty neat race that was well organized. His relay team placed 13th in their division out of 87 teams.
  • This weekend both him and Madison have a race at John Deere! Aaron will be running the 5K race around the World Headquarters where I work and Madison is going to run her very first race (the 50 yard dash) for kids 4 and under. I am very excited to cheer them on and promise to post pictures later.
The Taming of the Slough
Kind of hard to see but all of the competitors standing by the boat house waiting to take off on the kayaking portion
One of the groups taking off. I'm afraid we never did find Aaron before he took off as we didn't know what color shirt he wore (he left the house about 6:45 and the race didn't start until 8). We also didn't know what color his kayak was which made it even harder....
 we did find him though!!
and cheered him on. This was Madison trying to find daddy.
and he's out of the water and onto the bike racks to get started!
Aaron finishing up the biking portion and ready to head off for the run
Aaand done. Completely exhausted. What a man will do for some free pizza and beer after the race!
I just wanted to post a quick picture of Madison practicing her big sister skills. We've gone to see Owen's little sister Taylor a few times and Madison does so well with her. She's going to be such a great big sister soon!

Well I'll post more pictures later after the race tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by!
Sarah
